Student Learning Outcomes
As part of its next accreditation, Las Positas College will focus on Student Learning Outcomes. Student Learning Outcomes, or SLOs, are the results or evidence of student learning. They demonstrate the extent to which student performance meets expectations of learning.
These results, to be collected at the course, program and college levels, will be shared widely and used for the improvement of teaching and learning and for the improvement of the college as a whole.
The LPC Student Learning Outcomes Committee hopes that the new emphasis on learning outcomes will:
- Facilitate agreement about the content and skills we expect students to attain;
- Help assure students are prepared for their next course, transfer, workplace;
- Make public what we expect students to know and do;
- Bring recognition to many excellent teaching strategies already in place;
- Lead to significant professional development for faculty;
- Build collaboration among faculty;
- Help departments conduct more meaningful program reviews;
- Help secure resources;
- Help us pace ourselves to meet accreditation goals;
- Make the accreditation process more purposeful and useful.
